Trunkt Gallery of Tribeca is proud to present artist Laura Loving’s new series "I Love NY". This exhibit runs May 2 through May 30 and features paintings, prints and art objects by the artist.
“I Love NY” is Laura Loving’s vision of her favorite city. “For me, New York City and the people that live here have a unique energy, and I have tried to capture that energy in my paintings,” Laura says. “I have purposely created faceless characters in an effort to engage the viewer to create their own stories and see themselves, as well as people they know, in these works.”
“In general, I take everyday images and recreate them into my own animated version of the world,” Laura says. “I consider my art to be an invention of reality rather than purely an exact imitation. I exaggerate color and shape to create art that is humorous, alive and uplifting."
In addition to Laura’s latest series, opening night is the debut of her latest limited-edition serigraph print, “Ed and Wanda’s Flower Garden.” Laura worked with renowned serigraph printer Gene Licht of PK Editions to create each of her serigraphs. Licht has been working with artists to create limited-edition art since 1968.
Each edition consists of 250 hand-pulled serigraph prints, and each print is hand signed and numbered by the artist. Serigraphy is a method of screen-printing in which each color within an image requires its own screen for the press. Fifteen screens were used to create “Ed and Wanda’s Flower Garden.” The artist’s two previous editions, “Queen of the Tulips” and “Lady Liberty,” are also available for purchase.
Laura earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Georgia. Painting with oil enamel on canvas and gouache on paper, Laura has developed a distinctive style consisting of bold lines, dramatic surface patterns and pure color, which results in vibrant paintings with a certain poetic energy.
Laura has exhibited in solo and group shows throughout the United States and abroad. In New York, she has shown at Lincoln Center’s Cork Gallery, Pratt Institute, Strut Gallery and Anthem Gallery. In 2005, she was hired to create the artwork for the Fall Cabaret Convention at Jazz at Lincoln Center. In Europe, she has shown with the Wonderwall Gallery in Cirencester, England, and Chaleurs du Sud in Nice, France.
In Atlanta, Laura was commissioned to create the official serigraph for the 1998 Music Midtown Festival. Saks Fifth Avenue in Atlanta featured Laura’s paintings and art objects in their winter 2007 “Spotlight on Art.” The Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, Fla., has acquired several of her paintings for their permanent collection.
